Russ Rose Then (1996): “I thought Angie had a solid year last year. She started throughout the year and played a lot. We need her to step it up this year. I don’t think she can play at the same level she did last year and have the same success. She needs to be a stronger physically, but her knowledge of the game is solid and she is a very competitive young lady. Hopefully, she will be able to provide us with the necessary leadership on the floor and continue to ball handle at the level she does right now.”
1996 Season (Senior) Highlights and Awards: 2nd Team All-American … All-Big Ten team … had a team season-best 25 digs vs. Notre Dame (9/13) … during her career at Penn State, the Nittany Lions went 120-20 (.857), including a 67-5 (.931) mark at home … they also led the Big Ten in digs all 4 years and finished ranked in the top 10 at the end of each season … during those 4 years, Penn State competed in 2 Final Fours (1993 and 1994) and won 2 Big Ten titles — 1993 and 1996 (when it tied with Michigan State).
Season Recap: Played in all 34 matches and 112 of 115 sets … put down 338 kills ( 3.02 kills/set) with a .301 hitting % … posted 440 digs for the season (3.93 digs/set) which ranked 1st in the Big Ten … recorded 81 total blocks (.72 blocks/set), which ranked 4th on the team, and 18 service aces.
Before Penn State: Kammer was cited for her volleyball prowess on the national, state and local levels … as a senior at Burris HS, she was recognized as a 2nd-Team All-American … also featured in the Volleyball Monthly annual “Fab 50” listing … a three-time all-state and all-conference selection, Kammer also received first-team All-America recognition from the USVBA. .. her lengthy list of honors
includes invitations to the 1992 Mizuno All-American All-Star match in Albuquerque, N.M., and the 1993 Mizuno Indiana All-Star match … a 4-time letterwinner, Kammer also boasts experience as a participant at the 1992 Junior Elite camp .. .played on Burris teams that won 161 of 162 matches over a 4-year period while capturing state championships in 1989, ’90 and ’92 … Burris was ranked No. 1 in the nation by Volleyball Monthly in 1992 … on the club level, Kammer played for Munciana, which placed 3rd at the 16-and-under nation al tournament in 1991 and 2nd at the 18-and under tournament in 1992.
