
Russ Rose Then (1999): “I think Shannon has gotten much stronger in her redshirt year and continues to improve in the setting position as well as playing front row. I think Shannon has made good progress and I wouldn’t be surprised this year if she gets some opportunities to set and demonstrate what it is she can do. She is very strong at the net and I thnk she’ll surprise some people from the setting position.”
Russ Rose Now (2025): “Shannon was a well-skilled setter/right side, who always had a smile on her face and a zest for life. Big hands, good skills. Huge smile! Happy-go-lucky, and a really good person. Went on to have a great extended career as a high school and club coach in Pennsylvania. She was a valuable contributor.”
1999 Season (RS Freshman): 1999 National Champion … spent time as an understudy to 3-time All American Bonnie Bremner … played in 3 sets and 3 matches … averaged 5.33 assists/set. … made 1st collegiate appearance in the Bradley (9/4) match where she tallied 6 assists and 1 dig … entered the UNC Charlotte (9/10) match in the 3rd game and dealt 10 assists … tallied 8 assists and 3 kills while hitting .750 in an exhibition match with the USPV “Dream Team” (10/9).

Before Penn State: At Dallastown High School, was named the Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year in both 1997 and 1998; named to Volleyball Magazine’s 1998 “Fab 50” team; an All-State and All-District selection in 1996 and 1997, as she led the Wildcats to the state finals in both years; 1996 and 1997 York Daily Record Player of the Year; was team captain her junior and senior seasons; alternate on the 1996 U.S. Junior National Team; named Gatorade Circle of Champions Mid-Atlantic Regional Player of the Year in 1996 and 1997; won the 1998 Shipley Special Achievement Award and the 1997 Shipley Distinguished Achievement Award; also played shortstop and center field on the softball team for four years.
