Season Recap: Saw action in 38 of 41 matches … was displaced as the starting middle hitter by Leanne Kling at the beginning of the season, but persevered and eventually won back her spot in the lineup … as the postseason approached, she began to reassert herself as a potent offensive threat and played a major role in leading Penn State to its 7th straight Atlantic 10 title … for the season, she totaled 146 kills (7th on the team), 52 total blocks (6th on the team), 131 digs (7th on the team) and 31 service aces (4th on the team) … season-highs: 9 kills (3 times) and 17 digs and 6 blocks vs. Texas-Arlington.
Before Penn State: A 1988 AAU All-American, Cairl set school records for passing efficiency, kills, hitting efficiency, hitting attempts, kills/set, blocks and block [assists] at Potterville HS in Michigan … Volleyball Magazine “Fab 50” … a middle blocker, she was a member of the 1988 state championship team … won all-area, all-conference and All-State honors 4 consecutive years … played in the 1988 Mizuno East-West All-Star match … all-conference and All-State in basketball, she competed on the 1985 state title team … member of the JAVA junior volleyball team.
