Russ Rose voted Penn State fourth in the pre-season American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll. It looks like he may have been a bit optimistic — at least for now, as California is #1 (10-0; 51 first-place votes), Stanford #2 (6-0, 8 first-place votes), Illinois #3 (9-0), Washington #4 (7-0, 1 first-place vote), and Penn State #5. From the Big Ten, Minnesota is #9, Nebraska #11, Purdue #14, Michigan #18, and Ohio State #25.
