1987 Season (Freshman) Highlights and Awards: Twice won Atlantic 10 Conference Freshman-of-the-Week honors … named to the conference’s All-Tournament team … earned spots on All-Tournament teams at the Husker and Baden invitationals and Reebok Classic.
Season Recap: was a major contributor to the Penn State offensive attack in her first season of collegiate competition . . . finished second on the team in kills (262] and third in hitting efficiency (.301) … also tallied 191 digs. played in all 36 matches, recording 1 0 or more kills 10 times.
Before Penn State: Zientara was listed as a “freshman to watch” by Volleyball Monthly … 3-year letterwinner at Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park and captain for 2 years … played on a gold medal-winning Junior Olympic team in 1987.
