Lions Sweep Florida, Move on to Elite Eight

It’s only one match, but what a match: Penn State dominated #16 Florida 25-12, 25-18, and 25-21 to move on to the Regional Finals on Saturday against California. Senior OH Megan Hodge once again led the Nittany Lions, totaling 20 kills on .366 hitting, with 10 digs and one service ace. Jr. Opp. Blair Brown had 11 kills (hitting .440) and 13 digs, Arielle Wilson had 9 kills (hitting .471), and Big Ten Freshman of the Year Darcy Dorton added nine kills on .664 hitting. Senior Alisha Glass led the team with 45 assists, adding 5 kills (according to Game Tracker) on .714 hitting.

As a team, the Nittany Lions hit an impressive .454, while holding the Gators to a .189 hitting percentage. Penn State registered total 12 blocks to the Gators 3.

As we noted in an earlier post, Russ Rose said before the match that Penn State has played some of its best matches away from Rec Hall. Though Florida made a bit of run in the third set, and Coach Rose will find things that the Nittany Lions need to work on, listening to the Florida announcers, and Coach Mary Wise, this match was one of them.
