Jan Mosier

Jan Mosier #8 OH 5’7″

1979 Media Guide: “Jan Mosier is the best jumper on the team … only 5’7″, but a 30 inch vertical jump makes her a strong candidate for a starting job at the net.”

Russ Rose Now (2026): “When I started coaching at Penn State, Jan Moser was the only potential recruit that was still undecided on where she was going to go to school.  When she chose Penn State, she became my first recruit and she was great. She was a big jumper — our highest jumper at the time — and she was strong in the air. I remember when her high school team at Richland won the state championship. The bleachers were all pushed back in Rec Hall and her father jumped down from up above to celebrate on the floor. He was a great fan, and she had a good bit of his toughness in her game.  She really helped build the program.”

1979 Season (Freshman): Letterwinner.

1982 Season (Senior)

1981 Season (Junior)

Before Penn State: Richland High School, Johnstown, PA. Named most valuable player and All-Tournament at the 1978 Johnstown Invitational … qualified for the state track championship three years, competing in four events as a senior (long jump, high jump, triple jump, and 440 relay).

“I saw Jan play in high school and invited her to visit Penn State. She jumped like a kangaroo. I had rarely seen anybody with a vertical height like her. She was my first recruit.” Russ Rose, “Imagine that you are a women’s volleyball coach laying the foundation for a new tradition,” The Daily Collegian, Oct. 21, 1982.
