Chloe Chicoine Leads McCutcheon High School To Indiana 4A State Title

Penn State women’s volleyball commit Chloe Chicoine led McCutcheon High School to its first Indiana 4A state championship in program history Saturday night in Muncie, Indiana.

The Mavericks (30-6) swept Castle High School 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-23) and Chicoine had the final kill of the match, collapsing in celebration at midcourt as her teammates mobbed her.

The three-time captain and 2023 standout missed part of her junior season in September in order to represent the United States at the FIVB U18 World Championship in Durango, Mexico, where she and her teammates won bronze. Chicoine had a match-high 19 digs, 10 kills, an ace, and assisted on the final block after starting in a 3-1 win over Serbia.

Chicoine has more than 1,400 kills and 800-plus digs so far in her high school career, per MaxPreps. We’ll post her stats from the championship match, which was held at Ball State’s Worthen Arena, once they’re published. Chicoine is teammates with Purdue assistant coach John Shondell’s daughter, Allie.

Chicoine and Ohio outside hitter Karis Willow are the lone verbal commits for the Nittany Lions next cycle, while Alexa Markley and Mandi Morioka make up Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class that can sign letters of intent as soon as Wednesday, November 10.

Chicoine, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Lafayette, Indiana, combines an impressive skill set of quite a vertical leap and being able to cover much of the backcourt by herself if need be defensively. Chicoine could play libero at the collegiate level or continue hitting when she arrives at Penn State prior to the 2023 season.

Chicoine plays her club volleyball for Circle City VBC and helped her team qualify for the 2021 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship in Las Vegas last summer. Chicoine is considered one of the top prospects nationally in the 2023 recruiting class and gives Penn State fans plenty to be excited about.
