USA Falls to Brazil to End Week 1 of World Grand Prix

The USA Women’s Volleyball team fell to host-country Brazil on Sunday, leaving the U.S. Women in 9th place after Week 1 of the FIVB World Grand Prix.

Former Penn State All American Nicole Fawcett led the U.S. Women with 11 points. Final stats for the match are available from FIVB.org. Video of the match is available from UniversalSports.com.

“Our young team played at a reasonable level today,” U.S. Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon said in an interview with Maura Gladys in USAVolleyball.org. “We have the goal of improving each week and we took a step on this way in this round.” More from USAVolleyball.org.

The U.S. Women will compete in Week 2 of the World Grand Prix from August 7-9, in Li Miao, Chinese Taipei. Their first match will be against Dominican Republic (August 7th), followed by a match against Netherlands (August 8th), and a match against Germany (August 9th).
