Penn State bounced back from the Kentucky loss, and played very well against a scrappy New Hampshire squad Sunday afternoon in Rec Hall, winning 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, and 25-20).
The Nittany Lions were clearly in command the entire match — even when trailing 5-9 in Set 3 — and all 16 healthy players made an appearance in at least one set.
Kennedy Martin tied for the team lead in points, with 12 points on 7 kills (.385 hitting), 3 service aces, and 4 block assists.
Emmi Sellman totaled 11 kills on 17 errorless swings (.647 hitting), with Caroline Jurevicius (8 kills, .375 hitting, 8.5 points), Maggie Mendelson (7 kills, .500 hitting, 7.5 points), and Jordan Hopp (4 kills on 5 errorless swings, 7 points) also had very productive matches.
Addie Lyon, in only her second start at Penn State, guided the Nittany Lions to a .430 hitting percentage for the match (.643 in the second set!). Kennedy Martin (4 blocks ), Jordan Hopp (3 blocks), and Gabrielle Nichols (2 blocks) came up big at the net, while Ava Falduto (7 digs), Gillian Grimes (7 digs), and Kennedy Martin (4 digs) chipped in on defense. Penn State held New Hampshire to a .190 hitting percentage for the match.
True freshmen Alexis Ewing and Gabrielle Nichols both played well. Ewing saw her most extended playing time to date, totaling 6 kills on 11 swings (.455 hitting percentage) and 2 digs in 2 sets. Nichols had 2 kills and 2 block assists in 3 sets.
The Nittany Lions totaled 11 service aces and 9 service errors for the match.
