Mruzik’s 16 Kills Power #3 Penn State’s Sweep of #11 Oregon

Mruzik once again powers the Penn State offense, as Nittany Lions win 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) over Oregon.

Jess Mruzik has been leading the Penn State offense so far in the 2024 season, and the Oregon Ducks weren’t able to slow her down in this match.  Mruzik totalled 16 kills, eight digs, and three solo blocks, hitting .353 as Penn State defeated Oregon in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) in a B1G match Friday night at Rec Hall.  Mruzik had 8 kills in Set 1, 3 kills in Set 2, and 5 more kills in Set 3 (.400 hitting).  Maggie Mendelson and Taylor Trammell chipped in with 7 kills each.  Izzy Starck totaled 27 assists in guiding Penn State to a .284 hitting percentage for the match.  Starck totaled 13 assists in the third set, in which Penn State hit .342.

Mendelson (5), Izzy Starck (3), Mruzik (3) and Mruzik were Penn State’s blocking leaders, while Gillian Grimes (10), Anjelina Starck (8),  and Mruzik (8) were tops in digs.  Penn State’s tough defense held Oregon to .088 hitting in Set 2.
