Holland Dominant In Penn State Volleyball’s Sweep Of Robert Morris

No. 20 Penn State women’s volleyball swept Robert Morris 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-12) Friday morning in the Mountaineer Invitational in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Sophomore middle blocker Allie Holland was outstanding for the Nittany Lions, leading all players with a career-high 11 kills and five total blocks. Holland hit .688 and had zero attack errors for the fourth time this season.

Gabby Blossom and AC Fitzpatrick each had two of Penn State’s nine service aces in the win, which saw the Nittany Lions hit .451 as a team and outblock the Colonials 12-5. Blossom also had a match-high 25 assists, nine digs, and two blocks, distributing the ball nicely to a handful of Penn State attackers.

Adanna Rollins and Jonni Parker put together solid showings against an outmatched Robert Morris squad, combining for 15 kills and 10 digs in the first leg of Penn State’s doubleheader Friday at WVU Coliseum. Parker leads the Nittany Lions in kills this season with 110 through nine matches — 40 more than her next closest teammate, Erika Pritchard, who had one kill on five swings against Robert Morris.

Freshman outside hitter Anjelina Starck tallied her first career kill for the Nittany Lions and was among seven substitutes who saw the floor for Penn State. After spending her first two collegiate seasons at West Virginia, senior defensive specialist Keatan Broughton made her return to Morgantown and came off the bench for Russ Rose in the victory.

The Nittany Lions (6-3) will wrap up non-conference play later tonight when they face tournament host West Virginia at 7 p.m. The Mountaineers (10-0) remained undefeated after beating George Washington and UMBC in a doubleheader Thursday.
