Hometowns: Arielle Wilson

This is the sixth in our series profiling the hometowns of current (and past) members of the Penn State Women’s Volleyball team. Today we look at Broadview, Illinois, the hometown of Penn State All American Arielle Wilson.

Broadview, Illinois, is an incorporated village (population of 8264 as of the 2000 census) located in Proviso Township, Cook County, 13 miles west of Chicago.

DigNittany’s crack team of researchers and statisticians raved about breakfast at Pete’s #2 restaurant in Broadview (particularly the hashbrowns — pdt (pretty darn tasty). Check it out:

Broadview is a neighbor of Maywood, Illinois. Here’s a birds eye video of a flyover of Broadview and Maywood:

Maywood is home to Proviso East High School, Arielle Wilson’s alma mater. In addition to Arielle, Proviso East High School has produced an extraordinary number of notable alumni.

They include entrepreneurs like Sheila Johnson, co-founder, with her husband Robert L. Johnson, of the Black Entertainment Network and the world’s first female African American billionaire (shown here at the TriBeCa Film festival, discussing her new film “A Powerful Noise”):

Television talk show host and entertainer Mike Douglas also graduated from Proviso East (Douglas is shown here in 1977 with Tiger Woods golfing — at age 2):

Other Proviso East alumae include NBA basketball stars Shannon Brown (shown here at Proviso East discussing his free basketball camp):

and Michael Finley (shown here at Proviso East talking about his 13th annual free basketball camp):

Boston Celtics Head Coach Glenn (“Doc”) Rivers is another Proviso East grad:

As is Eugene Cernan — the last person to walk on the moon (shown here talking with a group of Denver, Colorado school children about how his experience has inspired him):

It’s a long way from Broadview, Illinois and Proviso East High School to the moon, but Arielle Wilson has always reached high, and with that kind of legacy, we think she has a good chance of achieving her goals.
