Penn State women’s volleyball opposite hitter Zoe Weatherington was selected in the fifth round (No. 30 overall) of the inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation draft Monday by the San Diego Mojo.
Weatherington was the only Penn State player selected in this year’s draft, but several Nittany Lions are already on other Pro Volleyball Federation rosters ahead of the league’s first season, which begins in January 2024.

Kendall White and Nia Reed are members of the Omaha Supernovas, while Gabby Blossom, Kaitlyn Hord, and Megan (Courtney) Lush are part of the Columbus Fury. Alisha (Glass) Childress signed with the Vegas Thrill to continue her pro career. Erika Pritchard, who spent the 2021 season at Penn State after a standout career at Maryland, is part of the Grand Rapids Rise alongside Nia Grant.
Weatherington spent the past two seasons at Penn State after a three-year career at Utah and was a key contributor for the Nittany Lions on their back-to-back Sweet 16 runs. She surpassed 1,000 career kills in 2023 and finished with 457 at Penn State. Weatherington added 166 total blocks and 69 digs as a Nittany Lion.
“Zoe’s a great team leader and high-energy kid,” head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley said before the NCAA tournament. “I think Zoe’s focused and driven.”
Weatherington’s strong arm will be a welcome addition to the San Diego Mojo in the franchise’s first season. Wisconsin outside hitter Temi Thomas-Ailara (No. 13 overall) and Oregon’s Morgan Lewis (No. 16) and Karson Bacon (No. 27) were also selected by the Mojo and will join Weatherington in San Diego. Thomas-Ailara will first participate in the Final Four in Tampa, Florida, alongside the No. 1 overall pick in Texas middle blocker Asjia O’Neal.
“I’ve learned a lot,” Weatherington said of how she’s grown as a player. “I look back and I just think about all of the things that have happened and I’m like, ‘Wow, this is definitely a unique experience that doesn’t come to just everybody.’ I like to remain grateful.”
