Starck and Muisenga follow in the footsteps of soon-to-be-teammates Jonni Parker, Gabby Blossom, Lauren Clark, Annie Cate Fitzpatrick, and Macy Van Den Elzen, who all participated in the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match prior to enrolling at Penn State. This year’s event has been canceled due to COVID-19 precautions, but there are plans to honor all 24 of the first-team selections at a later date, according to AVCA Phenom, which organizes the event.
Penn State is tied with Nebraska, Ohio State, Stanford, Kentucky, and Creighton for the most first-team selections this year with two apiece. Starck, who hails from Colorado Springs, Colorado, is listed as an outside hitter in the press release, but she could also wind up playing right-side hitter for the Nittany Lions given her versatility. Muisenga, a Wheaton, Illinois, native, is one of six setters who were selected as first-team All-Americans.
November 11 marks the first day 2021 volleyball prospects are eligible to sign a national letter of intent, which means the Nittany Lions could finalize plans with five recruits as early as today. The final signing date this cycle is August 1, 2021. Quinn Menger, a setter from Richmond, Virginia, rounds out Penn State’s 2021 recruiting class as it currently stands.
As usual, Russ Rose and his coaching staff have done an excellent job acquiring talent from all over the country as they continue their pursuit of an eighth NCAA national championship. This year’s team features players from 12 different states and one from Russia. Following the upcoming spring season, which is scheduled to begin on January 22, this new batch of talent from the 2021 class will arrive on campus ready to compete.
Although Starck and Muisenga won’t have the opportunity to showcase their skills against some of the nation’s top high school seniors on the court in Orlando, Florida, their inclusion as Under Armour All-Americans nonetheless signifies that Penn State will be getting two of the best prospects at their respective positions next year.
