WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP — Headlining an impressive group of eight Immaculate Heart athletes during Wednesday’s fall signing day was girls volleyball star Nia Reed. The Record Player of the Year for 2012 signed her letter of intent to continue her career at nationally-ranked Penn State, two years after verbally committing to the Nittany Lions.
“Hopefully when I get there we’ll win some national championships,” said Reed, a dynamic outside hitter who will be joining a program that currently is ranked No. 2 in the country and recently sent two former players — Megan Hodge and Christa Harmotto — to the 2012 Olympics for the U.S. National team.”

H.S. girls volleyball: Nia Reed named Player of the Year
From a December 2, 2012 post by Greg Mattura in NorthJersey.com:
From the first serve on opening night to the final kill at the Tournament of Champions, Nia Reed established herself as New Jersey’s No. 1 girls volleyball player.
The 6-foot-2 junior from Immaculate Heart added more weapons to her hard-hitting arsenal while leading the all-girls school from Washington Township to a repeat title at the TOC.
The Penn State-bound Reed hits the ball as hard as anyone in New Jersey, but her improved passing, serving and blocking earned her The Record girls volleyball Player of the Year honor.
“I’m always looking to improve,” said the affable Reed, a Fort Lee resident, “so hopefully next season I’ll be better than this season.”
