The Big Ten announced the conference schedules for all 14 volleyball programs ahead of the 2023 season Wednesday afternoon, including Penn State’s 20-match slate for the fall. Match times and TV schedules will be released at a later date.

The Nittany Lions will play seven conference opponents both home and away and six only once. At first glance, Penn State drew a fairly favorable schedule this season, as the Nittany Lions play Wisconsin and Minnesota once and will host the Badgers at Rec Hall on Saturday, November 11.

Penn State will begin its Big Ten schedule on Wednesday, September 20 when it hosts Rutgers and will wrap up conference play on Friday, November 24 with a trip to Columbus to face Ohio State for the second time after hosting the Buckeyes on Saturday, October 7.

The Nittany Lions are scheduled to play 29 matches during the regular season, including premier non-conference tilts against Florida, Georgia Tech, and Louisville. Penn State will no longer participate in the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge this season after previously playing Stanford and Oregon the last few years in that event. Excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 season played in spring 2021, this will be the first time since 2009 that Penn State will not play the Cardinal during the regular season.

Penn State will begin its 2023 season in Tampa, Florida, on Friday, August 25 at 8 p.m. ET against the Gators at Amalie Arena, site of this year’s Final Four December 14-16. Former Nittany Lion AC Fitzpatrick transferred to Florida prior to last season and will have a chance to compete against her friends on the Penn State roster. The Nittany Lions will face the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, August 26 at 6 p.m. at USF’s Yuengling Center.

After leading Penn State to the Sweet 16 and a 26-8 record in her first season as head coach of the Nittany Lions, Katie Schumacher-Cawley and her staff assembled a 2023 roster that features reigning Big Ten Setter of the Year Mac Podraza and two-time first-team All-Big Ten outside hitter Jess Mruzik. The Nittany Lions also welcomed right-side hitter Camryn Hannah, defensive specialist Lina Perugini, and setter Ally Van Eekeren this offseason.
