No. 15 Penn State women’s volleyball was swept by No. 11 Nebraska 3-0 (14-25, 23-25, 23-25) Friday night in front of a crowd of 8,347 at the Devaney Center in Lincoln.
Jonni Parker had a match-high 14 kills in Penn State’s second loss to the Huskers this season. She and Nebraska’s Madi Kubik, who led her team with 12 kills, were the only players to finish in double figures in that category.
The Nittany Lions hit just .088 in the setback, while Nebraska managed a .186 hitting percentage on a night where neither team was particularly strong offensively. Kayla Caffey had an impressive performance for the Huskers with seven kills and zero attack errors. Lexi Sun ended the match with a service ace.
Both setters, Gabby Blossom and Nicklin Hames, tallied double-doubles in the top 15 matchup, but Hames came out on top with 38 assists and 14 digs to Blossom’s 26 and 16. Both players led their teams in digs. Parker’s 41 swings were by far the most of any Nittany Lion, as Adanna Rollins’ 18 were second.
Anjelina Starck had Penn State’s only ace of the night. She was one of five substitutes for the Nittany Lions, joining Maddy Bilinovic, AC Fitzpatrick, Quinn Menger, and Cassie Kuerschen. Starck had eight digs and Bilinovic added three. After recording 14 digs Friday night against the Huskers, Jenna Hampton is now 21 digs away from reaching 1,000 for her career.
