Markley, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Peachtree City, Georgia, verbally committed to Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class on September 4. She’s currently the only high school junior committed to the Nittany Lions next cycle.
Markley and senior middle blocker Ngozi Iloh, a member of Duke’s 2021 recruiting class and a club teammate of Markley at A5 Volleyball, were the top two offensive options for the Chiefs during the 2020 season. Markley had 405 kills during an outstanding junior campaign, per MaxPreps.
Markley has a chance to win the state championship each of her four years playing varsity volleyball for McIntosh if the Chiefs put together another strong season in 2021. She has the opportunity to help build Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class in the coming months despite an ongoing NCAA dead period for campus visits.
The Nittany Lions currently hold verbal commitments from five prospects in the 2021 recruiting class in Anjelina Starck, Rachel Muisenga, Erika Williams, Quinn Menger, and Cassie Kuerschen, who joined the class on October 16 after flipping her commitment from the University of Tennessee.
Markley continues to improve her overall game on the court and shows plenty of promise as an outside hitter. Her impressive vertical leap and arm strength are evident as soon as you turn on her highlights. It will be exciting to see how Markley develops heading into her senior season of high school before she eventually enrolls at Penn State.
