The Penn State Women’s volleyball team opens its 2010 Season on Friday, August 27th in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the Carolina Classic, hosted by the University of North Carolina. Saturday morning (August 28th), Penn State will face the Villanova Wildcats at 11 a.m. Villanova, which finished 16-13 overall in 2009 (5-9 in the Big East), lost only three players from the 2009 squad. Returning for the 2010 season are all-conference selections Kim Maroon (who broke Villanova’s single season digs record, leading the conference in digs with 6.02 per set and earning a spot on the AVCA All-Northeast Region squad) and Maggie Mergen (who averaged 3.17 kills per contest with a .322 hitting percentage). The Nittany Lions’ final match in the tournament on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against the Fighting Camels of Campbell University, which returns five starters and nine total letterwinners from its 2009 team, which earned the program’s most wins since 2001. For Campbell’s 2010 Roster, Click Here.
