The opening weekend of the Women’s Volleyball season often features upsets and surprises, and the 2009 edition didn’t disappoint: #16 Michigan sweept #3 Nebraska
and Notre Dame defeated #5 Stanford, to name just two.
Though Head Coach Russ Rose undoubtedly returned to University Park with a long list of items that will require further attention, Penn State emerged from the Active Ankle Tournament with its consecutive match win streak intact (67 and counting), defeating Miami University 3-0, Alabama 3-0, and, after a nail-biting first set (29-27), St. Louis University 3-0. Alisha Glass was named the tournament MVP and was joined by Alyssa D’Errico, Blair Brown, and Megan Hodge on the All-Tournament team. We’ll have more on the tournament and the first weekend of play later today.
