Addie Lyon Transfers To Penn State Volleyball

A Lyon Finds Her New Pride

Addison “Addie” Lyon, a 5-foot-9 graduate senior setter who spent the last two years at Saint Louis University after beginning her career at the University of Missouri, is transferring to the Penn State women’s volleyball program for her final season in 2025.

Lyon announced her decision on her Instagram account Saturday morning, captioning it, “One more go around…see ya in the fall, [Penn State volleyball].”

Lyon, who hails from O’Fallon, Missouri and played for Rockwood Thunder, the same club program as Penn State alumna Gabby Blossom, will arrive on campus following the spring semester.

Lyon helped Living Word Christian High School, which has since closed, to win its first girls’ volleyball 2A Missouri state championship in 2020. PrepVolleyball.com ranked Lyon as the No. 116 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. She tallied more than 1,500 assists, 150 kills, and 70 aces during her four high school seasons.

Starting At Mizzou, Moving To Saint Louis

Lyon spent her first two collegiate seasons at Missouri, where she appeared in 25 matches in the 2021 campaign, with 15 starts, totaling 410 assists (second on the team), for an average of 5.92 assists per set. She recorded a season-high of 35 assists in a match against Auburn on October 17, 2021.

After sitting out and using her redshirt at Missouri in 2022, she transferred to Saint Louis in 2023, playing in 29 matches and 107 sets. She became a starter for the Billikens in the middle of the 2023 season, starting 14 matches. She led the team with 686 assists, including a career-high 61 assists against Fordham on October 13, 2023, at the time the highest total in the A-10 Conference since 2020.

Lyon earned A-10 Player of the Week honors on October 16, 2023, due in large part to her performance against the Rams. Lyon ended the 2023 season ranked sixth in the A-10 in assists (686) and assists per set (6.41), and totaled 32 aces with a career-high four against Rhode Island on October 29, 2023.

Lyon’s production dipped a bit in 2024, as she totaled 445 assists (4.68 per set) while running a 6-2 offense for the second straight season with fellow setter Kate Aupperle. However, Lyon has plenty of production over the course of her college career and is a solid option as Izzy Starck’s backup.

Starck led Division I in assists with 1,483 in 2024 and was named the fifth AVCA National Freshman of the Year in program history, joining Nicole Fawcett (2005), Megan Hodge (2006), Deja McClendon (2010), and Ali Frantti (2014). Starck also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year recognition. Starck led the Nittany Lions to their eighth NCAA national championship last December in Louisville, Kentucky.

Lyon Brings Skill And Experience To Penn State

Lyon will arrive at Penn State with 1,541 career assists, 378 digs, 54 aces, 41 total blocks, and 25 kills. She’s the second player to join the Nittany Lions’ 2025 roster this offseason following the addition of sophomore outside hitter Emerson “Emmi” Sellman from Ohio State on December 16, 2024.

Senior serving specialist Quinn Menger also handled backup setter duties behind Starck in 2024, playing a key role in terms of setting the opposite side of the net in practice and running warm-up lines with Starck before matches.

Lyon’s younger sister, Brytn Lyon, signed with Texas Tech back in November 2024 as part of the program’s 2025 recruiting class. She will be a freshman setter with the Red Raiders this fall.

Addie Lyon wore No. 15 at Missouri and No. 5 at Saint Louis, but donned the currently vacant No. 12 jersey, most recently worn by Cassie Kuerschen from 2021-23, during her Penn State photo shoot.

Lyon toured campus and the Rec Hall facilities with the coaching staff Friday, January 17 before attending the Penn State men’s hockey game, a 4-0 win over Canisius, with several of her now-new teammates later that night at Pegula Ice Arena.
