Penn State prevailed in five sets (25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-9) against a determined UCLA squad.
Pauley Pavilion was dedicated in June 1965. Penn State Women’s Volleyball played there for the first time on October 24, 2024. Better late than never, which might also be said for the team’s match against the UCLA Bruins, as they prevailed in five sets (25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-9) against a determined UCLA squad. Jess Mruzik (16 kills), Camryn Hannah (15 kills), and Taylor Trammell (11 kills) led the offense for Penn State, with Izzy Starck totaling 45 assists, and Gillian Grimes adding 6 assists, and Anjelina Starck chipping in with 3. Maggie Mendelson came up big with a match-high 8 blocks. Izzy Starck (4 blocks), and Taylor Trammell (3 blocks) also were strong from the front row. Izzy Starck and Gillian Grimes led the team with 14 digs each, while Ava Falduto came up with 11 digs.
Losing in five sets is becoming a bit of a habit for UCLA, as it lost in 5 sets for the fifth time in 9 Big Ten matches. With the win, Penn State pulled even in the all-time series with UCLA at 7-7. The two teams hadn’t played each other since 2014, when the Nittany Lions put the Bruins away 3-0 in the NCAA Regional Semifinals.
