Ohio State had an upset in mind, but Penn State, helped in no small way by Jess Mruzik’s 29 kills and 12 digs, held off the Buckeyes, prevailing in a five-set thriller at the Covelli Center in Columbus Ohio.
Taylor Trammell had 11 kills and Camryn Hannah chipped in with 8 for the Nittany Lions. Gillian Grimes led all players with 25 digs, while Izzy Starck (17 digs) also was strong for the Penn State defense. Leading blockers for the Nittany Lions were Maggie Mendelson (9), Taylor Trammell (4), and Jess Mruzik (4). Ohio State freshman Emmi Selman had an outstanding match with 27 kills on .286 hitting, and also posted 9 digs.
