We’ve put together tables showing how the top five teams in the B1G standings as of October 12th (Michigan State (6-0), Penn State (5-1), Nebraska (5-1), Minnesota (4-2) and Wisconsin (4-2)) compare in terms of overall statistics for team hitting percentage, opponents’ hitting percentage, assists, kills, blocks, and service aces, and where their individual players rank in overall hitting percentage, kills, assists, service aces, blocks, digs, and points.
Not surprisingly, their statistical performance is (generally speaking) reflected in their won-loss records: #1 Michigan State ranks first in service aces/set, and ranks in the top-4 in the conference in all the other categories except for blocks, where they are fifth (and only .03 blocks/set behind Nebraska). #2 Penn State ranks first hitting percentage, opponents’ hitting percentage, and blocks, and third in kills and service aces/set, and fifth in assists. #3 Nebraska ranks first in kills and assists, and third in blocks (but ranks last in the league in service aces/set).
Individual players follow that script, with the top teams dominating most of the statistical categories.
