Penn State issued the following press release today. Congrats to Steve and Maryland. But we’ll miss Steve.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s volleyball assistant coach Steve Aird has been named the head coach of the University of Maryland Terps women’s volleyball team. Aird has served as an assistant coach for the last two seasons, having also served as the team’s director of operations during the 2007 season.
“I am forever grateful for the opportunity I had at Penn State both as a player and a member of the staff,” Aird said. “Coach Rose has been a mentor to me and he knows how much I respect him and the program. I truly appreciate the student-athletes, fans and boosters that I’ve been fortunate to know during my time at Penn State, and I am incredibly excited to get going in College Park.”
Aird spent the last two years at Penn State involved in match preparation, student-athlete development and recruiting. He also helped guide Penn State to its last two consecutive appearances in the NCAA national finals, as well as the team’s sixth national championship in 2013.
